2024 Volvo S90 B6 Redesign, Price, Specs – The Volvo S90 is a substantial executive car almost too elegant to be extravagant. Mercedes-Benz and BMW are working hard to establish themselves as top-tier luxury sedans, but Volvo sticks to its guns with its subtle design and quiet performance. In addition to a turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder engine under the hood, the Volvo S90 for 2024 maintains its sophistication and style on the inside and outside.
There are two different powertrain options available, both of which are all-wheel-drive (AWD) and all of which are connected to an eight-speed gearbox. The base model’s mild-hybrid powertrain produces 308 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. In comparison, the enhanced drivetrain delivers 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque thanks to Volvo’s AWD technology, which uses an 87-horsepower electric motor at the front.
Redesign
The entry-level Momentum trim comes pre-loaded with all of the comforts one might reasonably anticipate for the price. The standard features are dual-zone temperature control, a power sunshade on the panoramic sunroof, a rearview camera, power-adjustable front seats with memory for the driver’s side, heated front seats, and 12-inch digital instrument cluster, keyless entry, and a 12V outlet in the trunk. Because it’s a Volvo, it also comes with a slew of safety systems, including post-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, front, and rear park assist, and lane-keeping assistance. We’ll go into more detail about the whole safety specification later on.
The Inscription trim level adds four-zone temperature control, motorized rear door sun blinds, a memory function for the front passenger seat, and front-seat ventilation to the vehicle’s standard features. The R-Design is identical in price to the Inscription, but it is targeted at a different kind of customer. While the specification levels are similar, the R-Design has body-hugging front seats and more aggressive aesthetic modifications, skipping out on specific amenities such as standard front-seat ventilation in favor of a more aggressive appearance.
Interior
Audi and Volvo are the two car manufacturers primarily responsible for the current minimalist interior style, and both do an excellent job of executing it. Volvo’s approach is distinctively Scandinavian, and fortunately, it comes with all of the necessary features already installed. As we’ve said in prior reviews, the material quality is excellent, and the colors offered are warm, natural, and relaxing. However, you’ll find a touch of this in the sportier Volvo S90 R Design variants, which are a welcome change from the chilly and clinical German interiors. Genuine leather and linear walnut inlays are used on all models, even the cheapest. None of the materials are substitutes.
Driving an S90 is like being in a high-end Scandinavian coffee shop, which may seem like a backhanded compliment. Still, it’s accurate because it’s a wonderfully peaceful place to be, and it’s a comfortable but luxurious comfort that doesn’t fret too much about being comfortable. Comfort and luxury options such as heated and ventilated seats and a Bowers & Wilkins sound system are available on higher-spec vehicles. The visibility is excellent, but the length of the hood can be a little scary at times.
Engine
This engine is used in both the B6 and the plug-in hybrid T8, which are supercharged and turbocharged versions of the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. In contrast, while the dual-charged four-cylinder engine is a technological wonder, it isn’t quite as refined as a German straight-six or V8 engine. Both versions are also equipped with the identical eight-speed automatic gearbox, but that’s where the similarities end for the two vehicles. The T6 is equipped with a conventional all-wheel-drive system, while the T8 is equipped with an electric all-wheel-drive system. The latter indicates that there is no mechanical link between the front and rear motors and that they operate independently of one another. When in full-electric mode, the T8 is effectively a rear-wheel-drive vehicle.
The Volvo S90 T8 is fast off the line thanks to the electric boost, and it’s even quicker on the interstate when the full 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque are put to work. The B6 engine produces 308 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, which is less than the more powerful B5. Nonetheless, when combined with the 48-volt mild hybrid system, supercharging, and turbocharging, this vehicle delivers a respectable performance as well. With the B6, overtaking isn’t a hassle, and the T8 drivetrain provides an even more pleasurable woosh up to overtaking speed than before.
Release Date and Price
The base S90 B6 in Momentum trim has an MSRP of $52,850, which is much less than the competition. The Inscription and R-Design variants are also available for purchase for $55,950. The T8 plug-in hybrid is only offered in two trim levels: Inscription and R-Design, both of which have an MSRP of $61,050. The basic price of the Volvo S90 does not include the automaker’s $1,045 destination fee, which is applicable in the United States. In addition, the S90 PHEV qualifies for a federal tax credit, which should be pointed out.
