2024 Volvo XC40 Electric, Redesign, Models – The smallest crossover in the Swedish manufacturer’s lineup, the tiny XC40, seems to exist to demonstrate to buyers that desiring a practical, multipurpose family vehicle does not require sacrificing attractive appearance, comfort, and amenities. The XC40 is available with a T4 or T5 gasoline engine or an all-electric recharge option that will be available in 2024. The standard model produces 187 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, while EV variants provide 402 hp and 486 lb-ft. Competing against members of the German trinity such as the BMW X2, Audi’s Q3, and Mercedes-GLA, Benz’s XC40 has a lot going for it, including an attractive cabin and a smooth ride.

Redesign
The new standard upholstery is premium leather, and two more USB ports have been added to the back seats. Externally, adaptive LED headlights and power external mirrors with auto-dimming have been added. In contrast, the standard suite of safety systems has been expanded to include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic warning, and rear parking sensors. However, the standard model no longer has an AM radio or heated windshield wipers, while heated rear seats are now available as an option. The major news for 2021 is the introduction of the all-electric Recharge version.
Interior
Additionally, the cabin is big and well-equipped with amenities. A big 12.3-inch information display and a nine-inch infotainment touchscreen are available to the driver. All of these features are easy to use owing to their ergonomic arrangement and steering-wheel-mounted controls, but the touchscreen menus might be challenging to traverse if you’re not accustomed to them. Powered seats for the driver are standard. Power seats for the passenger can be added in higher trim levels, and front or rear seat heating can be added as well.

Engine
Three engines are available for the XC40. Both the gas-fueled engines are turbocharged four-cylinder units with a displacement of two liters, while the electric version has twin motors, one at each axle, and a 78 kWh battery. An eight-speed automatic transmission is available in combustion-engined models.
The T4 engines are the entry-level option; they provide 187 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. This should suffice for those who enjoy pottering around at a leisurely pace and have no intention of rushing anywhere. The T5, as equipped on our tester, is noticeably better, delivering a combined 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque to make acceleration, passing, and highway driving far less difficult.
