New 2024 Volvo XC90 Price, Specs, Engine – Volvo’s XC90 was a foretaste of what was to come. Additionally, it made a significant investment in the brand’s Drive-E engine portfolio by using Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) for the first time. This year, the 2024 Volvo XC90, Volvo’s best-selling vehicle in North America, is still its second-generation midsize SUV, built on a new platform and five years in the making.
The XC90 is a spacious, elegant crossover vehicle that prioritizes safety and comfort over performance. It can accommodate seven people in three rows of seats. There are three powertrain options: FWD turbocharged T5 with 250 horsepower; AWD hybrid T8 with 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque; and AWD T8 with 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque.
Redesign
Full-LED active headlights, a speed-limiting “Care Key,” and two rear USB ports are standard on all 2017 Volvo models. A Slippery Road Alert and Hazard Light Alert are sent via car-to-car communication as part of a “Connected Safety” initiative. It will also be standard for all Volvo vehicles to have a top speed limit of 112 miles per hour by 2024. Additionally, the XC90’s wireless charging, front park assist, and new wheel designs in a 19-inch size make it even more appealing to buyers. Finally, Volvo has renamed all its hybrid T8 cars “Recharge” in the US.
Interior
Except those seated in the back, all passengers will have plenty of room to spread out. A six-or seven-seater version with three rows of seats is also available. The XC90’s interior features are centered around a portrait-oriented touchscreen that contains nearly all of the vehicle’s internal functions. Standard XC90’s base model equipment includes a panoramic sunroof and power-adjustable seats. However, the R-Design seats in this model’s R-Design grade are tight for people with larger frames.
Engine
The XC90‘s Drive-E engine lineup includes a 250 hp/258 lb-ft turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a T5 nameplate. The T6’s output increases to 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft with the addition of a supercharger. In addition to the T6’s 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque, the Recharge model adds an electric motor to the mix. An eight-speed automatic transmission sends power to the correct axle no matter what engine is used.
Although the T6 engine in our test vehicle has enough power to get the job done, it isn’t the most refined. Because of this, even though Volvo has made improvements to the XC90’s engine in recent years, it may still sound harsh and agricultural when the machine is working hard, as opposed to BMW’s turbocharged four, six, and eight-cylinder engines, which are always buttery smooth.
Release Date and Price
Prices for the Volvo XC90 can be found in a variety of ranges. There is a starting price of $49,000 for the T5-equipped Momentum, rising to $55,600 for the T5 R-Design model. There is a $2,500 charge for both vehicles equipped with AWD. The T6 R-Design costs $62,650, while the T6 Momentum costs $56,950 for the seven-seater and $57,450 for the six-seater. The T6 Inscription comes with a price tag of $63,250 for a seven-seater and an additional $500 for a six-seater.
